Colour 14700 is also known as FD&C Red No. 4. It is an orange to red colour, but can be blended with other colours to create a wide variety of different hues.
We use it in our Yummy Yummy Yummy shower gel to create a subtle pink tint. In our Goth Juice hair gel, colour 14700 is blended with colour 60725 to add a warm purple to the product.
Synthetic colours are regulated and approved for safe use by different governing bodies around the world. In the United States, colours for cosmetics must be specially pre-approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration. Each colour is designated by the letters FD&C (meaning suitable for food, drug and cosmetics), followed by a colour and number designation.
The European Union has a colour index using the prefix CI before a number. There is a huge array of colour listed under these systems. We use a few of these to supplement our natural pigments, to achieve a full pallet of colour. We find that there are some colours that we cannot achieve using only natural pigments.
